Welcome to adventures in lace! This is my first doily.. knitted on 0000 size dp needles using No. 60 blanc, I had to keep adding more as the diameter grew; there is no such thing as a 0000 circular needle!! It was fun to knit lace from the center outward and watch it grow and emerge as recognizable shapes. The museum pieces featured at Lacis in Berkeley were among my inspirations...

Lace in the branched fern pattern grows across the bottom of front and back:

The fern lace is knit sideways, then picked up across the edge for the body:

I found the cashmere in Florence last October whilst browsing through Beatrice Galli's beautiful shop next to the Ponte Vecchio. Here is a view from the balcony of the shop:

This camisole was begun sometime in the beginning of 2002, and finished sometime in 2003. The socks at the top are made from the leftover yarn (Schaefer).

Aran knitting originates from the Aran Islands.
